A professor of anthropology at Czaermov University, Suresh Sumadra has eagerly awaited the opportunity to delve into the secrets hidden beneath the canopies of the Dragon’s Jungle. Now with the help of a mysterious benefactor, he’s been able to assemble an expedition to Poema, the abandoned ancestral home of the Vanara. Kind and thoughtful, Suresh often speaks without always fully thinking through what he’s going to say and gets excited over new knowledge and discoveries. His passion for teaching shines brightest as he treats almost everyone he encounters as a potential student.

Ruth Sumadra
Herbalist
An accomplished herbalist who runs a respected secular clinic in Czaermov; Ruth Sumadra also serves as a guest instructor on plants and their unique properties at Czaermov University where her husband Suresh also teaches. Steady and determined, Ruth is a fierce protector of her daughter Anushka and those she considers close friends. She is highly knowledgeable in her field and privately mourns the mysterious and sudden decline of the LeRoy colony, where she grew up as a child. She wants to see the remains of her girlhood home, located somewhere along the route to the expedition site at Poema.

Anushka Sumadra
Teenage Trash Witch
The only child and daughter of Suresh and Ruth Sumadra, Anushka is often angry and in a foul mood. She is happiest when left to her own devices with her cat Sweet Pea. Anushka was a happy and rambunctious child but with puberty and adolescence has retreated inward. Her anxieties have been raised lately due to increasing night terrors, causing her to wake up screaming at all hours of the night. She suspects her parents of hiding something important from her and resents them for keeping her from a fun summer with her friends. However, her night terrors have become less frequent as the distance between her family and the Dragon’s Jungle closes.

Sha’yka
Vanaran Culturalist
Straddling the line between field researcher and adventurer, Sha’yka has traveled the world to learn more about his people, the Vanara. He had already been planning for a trip into the Dragon’s Jungle to explore Poema on his own, but when he heard about the impending research expedition he jumped at the chance to be included. He sent a message to Suresh asking to accompany the group into the jungle and offered his valuable knowledge of Vanaran culture. Sha’yka is carefree and rambunctious. He’s constantly breaking out into songs, particularly favoring popular secular music about life, romance, and dancing. He is passionate about learning more about his people but also about food, lovers, and birds.

Cheldea Baragiva
Graduate Student & Assistant Professor to Suresh Sumadra
One of the younger members of the expedition, Cheldea excelled at school and is achieving her doctorate at 23. She is also an accomplished wizard, she has a natural aptitude for magic and delights in spellcraft. Cheldea is coming on the expedition to further research her doctoral dissertation on the divides and different cultures within the Dragon’s Jungle. Headstrong and honest to fault, Cheldea has little patience for incompetence or indecisiveness. She often will say what she’s thinking and can be a tad biting in her remarks. Preferring to spend her time alone you can find Cheldea either researching, writing, or practicing magic. She tolerates Suresh because of his position over her, but quickly grows tired of his long-winded pontifications.

Malak Hezod
Foreman & Head of Logistics
A shrewd businessman from Uvuba, Malak works hard to create a business empire in his hometown. Malak’s father, Kulzu Hezod, struck it rich as a miner and fashioned a growing business in the town. Knowing he stands to inherit the least of his brothers Malak works diligently to create a business empire that he hopes will one day surpass his fathers’. As Suresh’s point of contact in Uvuba, Malak assembled the gear and team necessary for the expedition. Because of the dangerous nature of the Dragon’s Jungle, Malak was able to secure a large deposit from the Czaermov University with a further deal entitling him to any mundane treasures that lack historical significance. Malak will join the expedition in the jungle as the worker’s foreman mostly to keep an eye on his investments.

Dalton Juge
Bodyguard & Sharpshooter
A dedicated outdoorsmen and sharpshooter, Dalton Juge has earned the reputation of a dangerous man. Dalton is quick to punch or reach for his gun when threatened due to his brash impulsive nature. Dalton was hired personally by Suresh to work as a bodyguard (at Ruth’s insistence) for the expedition. Dalton has been into the Dragon’s Jungle before, but never as far as Poema. Regardless of the details, he knows to expect danger beneath the lush canopy. He took this job hoping for an easy paycheck, shooting leopards that come to close to the dig site, and paying only residual attention to those around him. Dalton reacts poorly to fear, preferring to immediately face and confront his problems with violence rather than piece out a solution.
